Based on what you have read from the two articles on Ms Siti's unfortunate and horrific experience as a maid, reflect deeply before you answer the next two questions:
(1) What rights do you think that humans have over others?
(2) What do the articles state about how humans treat each other in our modern world of today?
I am expecting a thought-provoking response from each of you and that would mean no less than 100 words per comment. The dateline for this online reflection is 9 July 2009.

I feel that humans have lots of rights over other humans. These rights may or may not be justified or correct.
I feel that we have the rights over a human’s every aspect in one situation but lesser in other situations. Example, our parents control nearly everything we do. This is not bad,
they do it out of love.
However some times, humans do have a lot of rights over other humans. Such as Ms Siti’s story where her employee abused her. This shows us that even though maids are
there to assist us they are still human beings like us and have their faults, limitations
bad points. They do not deserve to be abused as being a maid does not make one a lesser of a human.
I feel that we humans forget that they are merely our employees and not our slaves or our property. They are still human beings and do not deserve to be abused as they are no lesser than us.
I feel that humans today treat each other for granted as they have been living their convenient lives, assisted by machines and other people for a long time that we fail to realize what would we be without them and how important are they.

1)I think that humans have no rights over the others,as everyone are suppose to be treated equally, even they are not as highly educated as us.Lets take Ms Siti Hajar for example, due to her low education and her family fiance problem, she would not have left her family. Also risking her life to work there, but she thinks that not all malaysian employers are bad.We as the employers, should understand thier difficulties and not thinking that once you employed them, you can have the authority to abuse them.Everyone are born to learn, treated equally and not to have rights over the other.
2)Our modern world of today, humans have been treated differently due to having different thoughts and personalities. For example Ms Siti's employer, she thinks that employing them is not only helping them in household and also treat them as their venting object.Whenever they are stressed or frustrated they would try to pick on them and start to vent their anger at them, like pouring boiling water at her and continuously beating her with a cane. The employer would also forced her to eat pork knowing that she's a muslim, and only fed with plain rice.I think that the employer did such hardless actions to her is because of being a singled-parent with two children are very stressed. As for the other case, some people are kind-hearted by nature like the taxi driver. He or she took pity on her and drove her to the embassy, also handed her RM10 as giving her a helping hand, although it cant help much.Such generous people should have come to this modern world more, instead of those heartless people.

(1) Human have no rights over others. The maid is only provide the service to their employer. They should be treated with respect and be patient towards her weakness in their duties. Everybody should be treated equally.
(2) Through the articles I realized that human treat each other in our modern world of today by status, class, personality and emotions.
The employer had problem in her life as the articles had shown that she is a single mother with two children. Her life is so pressurized and stressful as she become very cruel towards Ms Siti (the maid) by abusing her physically for unable to fulfill her demands. And mentally tortured her by giving her pork despite her religion as Muslim.
In the other hand, Ms Siti also met a kind taxi driver to bring her to embassy to seek help and gave her RM10.

(1)Human have no right over others. All human are equal.People think that they have rights over others if they have power and if they have alot of money. As for maid, even if they are our servant or slave we still have to treat them nicely as they are also human. If their employer have right on them then i think the maid also should have the same right on her employer. For me those who think they have rights over other are selfish and bad people.
(2)The article shows that human in the modern they think they can have right on other because they have welth and power.Especially the employer they like to abuse their maid to release their stress and realease their anger on the maid when actually they are angry on someone else. But not all people are bad some also are kind as the taxi driver bring Ms Siti to embassy to seek help and gave her RM10.

1)i feel that human have no rights over others.everyone is suppose to be treated equally with the same share of respect.so what if the person is from a lower status then you are?they have feelings too.maids,to me are very brave people, they are willing to sacrifice so much just to let their family back home lead a better life.So what if at times the maid can make some mistakes?no one is perfect, the employer should be very grateful that someone is willing to do all the dirty work for them and they can just sit there and relax.just try being in the shoes of (for example)MS SITI Hajar for one day, your employer tortures you and gives you very little food, how would you feel? wont you feel hurt? also we should put the maid's family feelings into consideration. what if one day the maid goes back and the family sees the condition of their family member, wont they feel sad that their family member is being treated so badly in order to make money to let them have a better life?
2)people in modern days think that if they have money they can rule other people.so what if they are rich and the maid is being paid to work for them? yes, maids are employed to help you in the household chores but they are sure not here to be your punching bag.if the employer is stress or depressed, they should find their own way to de-stress themselve not venting their stress on their maids!people in modern days should also take their maid's religious believes into consideration.for example,MS SITI Hajar's employer forced her to eat pork, but doesnt she know that the maid is not suppose to eat pork or is she just acting ignorant?the employer should have respected the maid's religious believes.

1.) Human have no right over others, since all of us are human beings, we should be treated fairly. Having a higher position or rank does not mean having the permission to abuse others. In the article, maid is to help us with our daily house chores, although sometimes they made a mistake. We make mistakes once in a while too.
Made a mistake, we learn from it. There's a saying that we get better by learning through our mistakes.Guide them instead of hitting them, to make sure that nothing goes wrong in future. Maid worked hard for their families, and should spare a thought for them.
2.) Now in modern days, people are having the thinking that with wealth, they can take over people with financial problems. They do not realize how important others are to them. If everyone is being treated so unfairly, there would be riots and we could not depend on each other anymore. Maid for example, are hired by people to help them to take care of the house. Of course, they need time to understand your needs, maid is not a machine that could automatically store your daily needs, etc. Everyone needs time to get used to something, including the surroundings. Hitting them while they made a mistake is too unreasonable.

1)All human beings are equal in the eyes of our Creator. Therefore, we must all be respected, treated equally & fairly. Status, wealth and title are man-made. Every human has the right to make their own choices in life. We only have the right to care, love & look out for each other. Foreign workers such as maids and laborers are just like everyone else. They sold their land to enable them to come here to earn living for their poor families back home. They come from different cultures & poor countries but that do not mean that they are any lesser than us. In fact, they are far superior because of their sacrifices and tolerance. We should all try to put ourselves in their shoes. Do we want to be treated unfairly or without any disrespect?
2)In our modern world of today, people are more materialistic. Wealth is everything to them that they forget the value of family, friendship and human rights. Maids are human just like us who needs rest, friends and a little time for themselves. We should respect these needs and try to compromise with them instead of ill treat them when they can't understand or can't meet our standard of living. Ill-treating animals is an offence, what more if it is human.

1)Humans don't have any rights over others as everybody is equal in the society and everybody has their own rights and can stand up to them , no human should control others as they would not like being control , just because the other person is from a different background , society , status does'nt mean that we have the rights to control them , and to look down upon them .
2)In the modern world today , humans treat others badly they look upon your background , your wealth and your status , if you don't have any , they look down on you and treat you as their slave cause they are at a higher rank then you , and you must obey them .
The article state that we abuse the maid of their wrongdoings .
everyone do things wrong even god , nobody is perfect , you can blame them for what they do but you can't abuse them for their wrong doings , they have diginity too , like us humans , they too are humans , we can't abuse them .
maids also so have some mutural respect , no matter what , they treat us with respect like we do to them .

1)I think that human have no right over others. They are also human beings and they are just employed to help you with your house chores not your punching bag. Therefore we must also treat them with respect.
2)People nowdays treat people according by their background, wealth and power.
People who is richer will just simply look down on poor people and treat them like pest.If they meet someone who is richer than him or her, they would not dare to provoke them.
In Miss Siti case, she was treated very badly by her employer just because they are not realated and she is the employer and Miss Siti is the worker.
But not all the people judge someone else according by wealth or power. The taxi driver who help Miss Siti is an example of someone who help people in troublewithout knowing the person's background or situation.

1) Human should have no right over each other , as we have our own human rights and we can only control ourselves and not other people , we are all equal no matter female or male , we have our strength and our weakeness in us , nobody should control over each other or take the rights that we should control ourselves although everybody comes from a different background and society and all but nobody has the rights to look down and take the rights of someone and control them even if they are at a lower status of us
2)Humans treat each other curely as they abuse their maids if their maid do wrongly they pour pipping hot water on them and abuse them by hitting them with hard objects and more , these acts can't be tolerated as people had diginity too , they too have face and will be hurt and sad if being treated as a dog or a slave in the family , they come out from their country just to make a living in singapore , they want to earn the money to pay their agents and to earn money for their family members that are away from them , they do not deserve this kind of treatment from us . everybody have their rights even maids.

(1)Human have no rights between each other as we know what is right and and wrong. We ourself can decide, we no need others to judge what we are doing as we all got a brain that can decide how things can be done, eventhough we do it diffrently. We should not be tortured neither us torturing other people. We are made equally. Everybody got a weakness. And nobody is perfect. So human have no rights over others.
(2) What do the articles state about how humans treat each other in our modern world of today?
Currenty, people are being treated by their rank. Like the cast system. For example the article, the maid was poorly treated because she was a maid. This is not fair. Eventhough she was a maid, she still have some right, and she does not desevere to be abuse. And we should not see people by their ranks, if they are rich or poor. Cause everybody in this world is created fairly. So we should not treat people by thier ranks.

i feel that humans have no rights over others.we should not treat others badly as they have their principles and dignity too.today we live in a violent time and the way humans treat each other, its just not right and now more cases of raping and even maids are being hitted violently.this is not fair as they are humans too a they have rights.
1)Human have no rights over each other because we are all equal.Nobody should torture others because of their few weakness. The person who is torturing the others have also weakness in him.We should treat everyone as our family.
2)Humans treat each others cruely in our modern world of today. The maid was abused by her employer in the article because her family was not with her.She came out of her country just to make some money for her family in Indonesia.
She was just a maid and doesn't deserve to be abuse.Humans should not just look at people weakness.Everyone have their rights to decide what they deserve.
Jeremy(22)2E2
1)They do not have any rights over others as they can't just control others whenever they like.Even if we have a maid,we have the right over them like order them to do all the housework or to take care of our elderly. But we can't just control their food and many more.Maids are also humans so you cannot just hit them over a small mistake or an misunderstanding. We cannot control their life as people can make their own decision.
2)I think that in our modern days humans are most of the time ill-treated especially people like the maids. Most people nowadays look up to people who have money rather then those who don't.They think that money is very important to them. They seem to be disgusted by those poor people and so they will ill treat them. The most common thing that employers likes to do is to pour hot water on the maids. This situation is now very common. It happens a lot of times.Their bad attitude over innocent people like them is truly unacceptable for me.
Nur Syahirah Bte Rosman(14)2E2
1) No human has the rights over any other person. We each have our own mind and way of thinking, and nobody can tell another what to do. Even if the person is of a lower status then we are, like our maids. They may be of a lower status, but we still have no rights to control their lives.
2) The article states that in our modern world today, people look down on and abuse others of a lower status. Like Ms Siti's employer. She abused the maid and even forced her to eat pork. That is unacceptable as her employer knows that Ms Siti is a muslim. Though she might have stress of her own because of her two children, she had no right to vent her anger on her maid.

1.I think that people should be treated equally whether they are different colour or lower educated than us. Even if we have maid, it doen't mean that we should enslave them and treat them like trash. Take Ms Siti for an example. Just because she is a maid, a lower class in the modern time, she is violent attacked by her employee when she does mistakes that is very petty.
2.The article shows that people in the many people treat others based on their race, color, education, class and looks. Many people, like maids, get abused, physically and mentally and verbally. One common form of abuse of maids by employers is getting poured hot water on them. This can cause very severe burns and can scar them mentally, often making their faces very ugly, because of the burns. I think people should be treated equally!

1)I dont think humans have rights over the others . well everybody have their own rights . And it does not mean once you have a maid and since you pay her u have all the rights over her . Everyone should be treated equally . even if that person is working for you . You should at least understand the reason why she is working and the sacrifice this people make to get money so we should be considerate towards them also and we cannot look down on them . They are still normal humans like us who have feelings . so we have to understand their condition .
2)People these days are usually treated by their 'rank' . For example the article we read . The maid was abused just because she is a maid . Even though we are now living in a more modern world it does not mean the way we treat people should be different . we are all made fairly and we all deserve to be treated equally . Nowadays wealth is everything . but i seriously think we should respect and love everyone even how uneducated they are . For me wealth is not everything and we should take care , love and respect everyone around us . especially when they are close to us or even working for us .
Ufairah(13)2e2
1) I think Humans should treat each other as how they treat themselves . We do not have the rights to abuse others even if it is their own parents . We should treat each and everyone of us equally and not like how Ms Siti's employer did to her . Humans DO NOT have any rights over others and that means no one should abuse others . We are all basically the same kind and i think it is cruel for humans to ill treat others . We should treat each and everyone fairly and equally . Humans should not boss others around as they do not have rights over one another .
2) Humans treat each other like punching bags . They do not treat each other with basic respect they should actually recieve . Humans use others for letting out their anger by abusing them . Some even do it out of pure pleasure . The modern world of today should be encouraged NOT to abuse others as it is illegal and it might even kill someone . And when they do kill someone , they have to pay for the person's medical fees , to the person's family and more . They should be treating others with respect and do the right thing to them . Abusing them do not solve problems . Instead , it will only cause the victim to get hurt and also he/she's family .

1)i think humans has no rights other humans . Even for maids . Eventhough , maids are paid to work , it doesn't mean they are slaves . They still do have family and a normal life like us . We humans are created normal and equal , all the same . In some cases like parents over child and husband over wife or wife over husband , they may control and boss us around because they care and love us . But if abusing comes in , it means crime . Like minor strokes of canes or beating on the butt is from a parent to a child is not crime but when pouring of HOT BOILING WATER ?!?!? That is a crime . Who are they to do that to their maids . I feel that maybe people think that they are rich that they could just buy and own a maid and think that they are slaves .Well , they are wrong !
2)I have seen fights that happens in a split second , a person stares and another is 'not happy' and then comes the punching and kicking , maybe even stabbing . It shows how violent people are in this world of today . Actually , when i think again , i wonder how people could become so violent these days . Possibilities are , from a child they are used to a violent surrounding like for example his/her parents are fighting everyday and are violent . So , as a result violent may be their nature but maybe those type of people should see specialists about it .
